He is admired by United Airlines’ Engine Shop and considered the “one-stop shop” by United’s Engine Repair Engineering group. He’s equally appreciated by United’s Engineering and Support personnel, and praised by United’s Line Operations group for his after-hours support. Dave Gibbons is known by many United employees from San Francisco and Chicago, and they all count on him for his expertise, commitment, cheerful disposition and positive, “how can I help you today” attitude.
Gibbons, customer fleet director for United Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, was named the winner of the William G. Chamberlain Customer Service Award for Commercial Engines. He has been supporting United for nine years. The airline has more than 500 Pratt & Whitney and V2500 engines in its fleet.
“Our 90-year relationship with United Airlines runs deep, and so does Dave’s relationship with his customers,” said Matt Stoner, vice president of Customer Support. “This airline is like family. And that’s how Dave treats his customers. You are a great example of what it means to be dedicated to the customer and a dedicated employee. Thank you, Dave, for your commitment and efforts!”
The nomination form, signed by 12 United leaders, said Gibbons has distinguished himself and demonstrated time and again what it takes to be a helpful, effective and hugely appreciated fleet director. He effectively communicates to both United and Pratt & Whitney so that fair, legal, safe and timely resolutions result. He takes calls and answers emails at all hours including when he’s off duty. His knowledge and expertise are second to none. Mostly though, the employees at United who work with Gibbons appreciate that he’s always ready to “jump in” and solve whatever issue needs attention, especially when that help is needed in a timely manner.
The Chamberlain Award is named for William G. Chamberlain, who supported military and commercial customers from 1926 to 1961. His work set the standard for customer service at Pratt & Whitney. The Chamberlain Award marks its 25th anniversary in 2019.
